Doughnut

  • 2cups flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tsp butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • Oil to fry
Method
     For draining doughnuts,prepare a place with either newspapers or brown paper bag.
Top those with paper towels.Either flour clean kitchen counter or bread board for kneading doughnuts.Prepare a shallow bowl or plate with one inch of flour.
                 Heat oil in a deep fryer.Sift flour sugar,salt baking powder,cinnamon and nutmeg.Mix in butter until crumbly. Stir the milk and egg.With floured hands lightly knead the smooth dough. Let the batter rest for 10 min so that proper hydration can occur.Turn onto area prepare with flour Pat dough into 1/4 inch thickness.
                          Dip either doughnut cutter or biscuit in flour.Use to cut out doughnuts.Carefully drop doughnuts into hot oil,only a few at a time.Fry the first side for 45 sec then turn the rings just before bubbles form in the center of the unfired portion of the donuts.
                         As the rings surface,check the break point is crack that develops because the cutter action forms a weak or stress point in the batter. Fry the second side for the same length of the time as the first..Drain on prepared paper towels..
           Sprinkle with powdered sugar or cinnamon- sugar mixture .
                      You can even dip it in chocolate sauce and add colored sprinkles.
