Urad Dal Ladoo

Urad Dal Laddu also known as sunni undalu is a very popular recipe of South India. Sunnundalu or Urad dal ladoo is a very popular and healthy sweet prepared during Diwali festival, Normally our grandmother's used to prepare these ladoos and store them in airtight boxes and ask us to eat daily one as it has a whole lot of nutrition and health benefits. These ladoos are perhaps the easiest dessert that can be made easy, and tastes yummy and highly nutritious.Sunnundalu is a very traditional sweet of Andhra. Sunnundalu are made of roasted and ground urad dal , powdered sugar and desi ghee this three ingredients mixed together and shaped into round balls.

Ingredients


  • 1 cup urad dal / minapa pappu
  • 2 tbsp. sesame seeds
  • 2 tbsp. cup almonds or walnuts
  • ¾ to 1 cup sugar brown or sugar
  • 3 green cardamoms (powdered)
  • ½ cup melted ghee

 Method
• Take  Dry roast Urad daal, sesame seeds and almonds or walnuts. Powder it coarsely or you can just chop nuts and powder sesame seeds too
Mix all the dry ingredients evenly, blend it in mixie jar in batches till it becomes warm.It will begin to ooze oil that helps in binding.Heat up the ghee and pour little by little on the mix and make round balls. Alternately can use milk to make the ladoos, but they taste good only if consumed immediately.
Instructions
  1. If you are not particular about washing urad dal, you can go ahead using without washing. Otherwise Wash and sun dry urad dal (can fan dry too for few hrs). dry roast till you get a nice aroma. Powder it.you can mill it too.
  2. Dry roast lightly sesame seeds. Set aside to cool
  3. Dry roast almonds.
  4. Firstly powder dal with cardamoms to a slightly coarse powder
  5. Powder sugar finely, add to the powdered dal
  6. Powder sesame seeds, add to the ready powder
  7. Powder almonds , add to the dal powder
  8. Heat the ghee to slightly
  9. Mix all the three with along with sugar , run the blender once till slightly warm.
  10. Transfer this mix to a plate and pour slightly hot ghee little by little as needed.
  11. Mix and make the balls. Add ghee only when needed. You may not need to add the entire ghee
Notes
You can use milk to make the balls, but must be consumed immediately
